Consider the size of your household when choosing a dishwasher. The number of people in your household will determine the appropriate dishwasher capacity, as it correlates with the required place settings. Use the following guide to select the ideal capacity based on your household size:

Dishwasher size

The standard size for a dishwasher is 600mm wide, 820mm high, and 600mm deep, fitting at least 10 place settings. For small kitchens, a compact dishwasher of 450mm wide, 820mm high, and 600mm deep can accommodate around 8 to 9 place settings.

Types of dishwashers 

Built-in dishwasher

This dishwasher is permanently installed under your kitchen countertop and can be fully or partially integrated with your cabinetry. Built-in dishwashers come in stainless steel, white, or black finishes and can be concealed behind cabinetry or have a visible front control panel.

Freestanding dishwasher

A stand-alone dishwasher that doesn’t need to be installed into cabinetry. It can be placed anywhere with water and drainage access. Freestanding dishwashers come in stainless steel, white, or black finishes and various size variations to suit most kitchen spaces. 

Other dishwasher features to consider

• Connection: Your dishwasher will require a power supply, water supply, and wastewater drainage. It's recommended to have a professional install and connect it for you.
• Installation: Measure the available space and the dimensions of the dishwasher accurately. Consider rear ventilation and the 'air gap' to protect against flooding.
• Noise: Look for models with sound levels at 45 dB or under for a quiet experience. Some models have an Extra Silent program running at a virtually silent 37dB.
• Energy efficiency: Consider dishwashers with half load settings and delayed starts to save on bills and energy consumption.
